Mavin John Tyler is the proud son of Mr. John Authur Tyler and Mrs. Ann Tyler. Born and raised in the vibrant Pleasant Grove neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, in a stable two-parent household, Mavin's childhood and teenage years spanned from the early 1980s into the mid-to-late 1990s, a time marked by the initial wave of the crack epidemic in America and a dramatic rise in gang activity, particularly in South Dallas. The effect on the city was profound, with the number of murders peaking at 500 in 1991.
Amidst these challenges, Mavin's resilience was forged through strong family support, wise guidance, faith, and God’s grace, which propelled him to graduate from high school in Dallas. He attended Texas Southern University in Houston, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in administration of justice. Continuing his pursuit of education, Mavin received a master’s degree in criminal justice from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He began his career with the Dallas Police Department in 2004 and steadily advanced to become a police lieutenant. Through dedication and perseverance, he has accumulated numerous awards, accomplishments, and commendations in service to his community. Yet, Mavin’s deepest sense of pride comes from being a father to his two children, Laila Jade and Mavin II, and a devoted husband to his wife, Keisha. These family bonds are his greatest blessings.
